Toronto Dog Walkers in High Park

Last Monday, Raymi Toronto tagged along with Adventures in the Park, Toronto Dog Walking for a crisp afternoon walk in High Park with many beautiful canine creatures. It was a perfect sunny day for dog walking.

Romulus and Raymi engage in a game of tug ‘o war.
Rene and Catherine (married) have been walking dogs professionally since the mid 1990’s – over 20 years, which is a lot of kilometers and pretty awesome. Dogs are great. Greater than people I sometimes think and dog people are a breed all their own. Rene was profiled in the Toronto Star a few years back when the family adopted Daisy, a Costa Rican Hound. Here’s the article:

Toronto man to adopt one of three malnourished Costa Rican hounds

There is a special place in heaven for any advocate of animals, no I’m not crying YOU’RE crying lol.

Romulus (Mastiff), Stella (St. Bernard) and Spud (bull dog) live together and MUST wrestle together every day on their walk. Romulus is still a baby at 12 months and last in the pecking order, thus he takes the submissive position in all wrestling matches. It is very amusing to see.

Spud gets the stick while Daisy (the rescue) prepares for launch in the bg.

Special dog whispering occurred to get the whole gang to pose for a photo. Surprisingly, it is hard to get a gigantic English Bull mastiff to point in the direction you want him to once you realize everyone is back lit. All of these dogs board at Catherine and Rene’s house overnight when their families are away and have become part of their family so it’s safe to say they’re dog people.

A gentle giant suck. Dogs are pure joy.

You see plenty of dog walkers afoot, coming into the park with their charges leashed to their belly (mother) leash. High Park is run by the dogs in the day, it’s literally, for the dogs and it becomes a total Dog World. Being witness to it is kind of a rush and plenty adorable to see all kinds of dogs smelling everything, sniffing each other, hyper-actively playing and running all over the place while chilled out dog walkers/owners take in the entertainment. Catherine and
Rene start at dog hill every day and take their pack through the trails of the off leash area so their dogs can run free, chase squirrels, enjoy nature and engage in other natural doggy business that leashed dogs don’t often get a chance to do in the city.

If you have a dog in need of walks while you work during the day by all means get in touch with Catherine and Rene (and their motley crew) they’re licensed, professional, experienced dogwalkers and a total joy for your pup to get along with.

Sometimes you need to resort to treat bribes – a dogwalker’s secret weapon. They just stuck to my mitts. Dogfail.

Spud (the mini tank) tackles Romulus, exhibiting dominance. What courage. Stella is just like whatever.

Much more gigantic IRL. I just remembered I made a video too.

🙂

Off to the races. Dog races.

A walk to remember.. it really was I remember it fondly. Also, from the copious visuals I came away with.

The landscape of High Park’s dog area is pretty groovy if you ask me. Hills, hobby horses for your four-legged friends to run through and play on. That’s when we first arrived and I was trippin’ on how far out the whole scene was.

That poodle is called Pico. She is a total sweetheart, very calm amidst the chaos of the other three rascals going bananas all over each other.

Catherine and I are spirit animals in terms of fashion. I wasn’t sure what to wear but when she showed up I was like, I made the right choice indeed.

That’s the guy who had the hassle of a stubborn, playful dog jumping and staying in the middle of the huge dirty pond at the bottom of the hill and as I watched the whole saga unfold I wondered what my Uncle Roger was doing in Toronto (they look exactly the same).

Too funny. Do you think you could be a dogwalker? It surprised me to see how these packs of dogs aren’t dragging people down the street and get along together, how do they do that?

The dog I am holding on leash is a Portugese Water Dog named Hudson and seemed to prefer hanging out with me, which I loved.

This is the part that had me laughing. Another herd of dogs comes by every minute then both herds communicate for a bit and everything shuts down until they all finish staring at each other and running around, all walker’s/owner’s calls are pretty much fully ignored it really showcased how much we were in Dog World.

Pico is very obedient which made me think she was smart. What’s the point in running away when all the other dogs are causing mischief, lets just do our walk and not cause any fuss. Animal people are intuitive, no? I probably projected my own feelings onto Pico just now. Sorry Pico.

I need to see Romulus again asap and have a kiss. Why do dogs do this to people?

Thank you for letting us join you in High Park we had the best time. Love getting outdoors as much as possible.
