Shanny in the City & City Events Host After Work Schmooze at Maison Mercer
Everybody loves to Schmooze. Every other Friday this summer, Shannon Tebb of Shanny in the City and Deb Lewis of City Events have been killing it with their after work drinks parties on the rooftop of Maison Mercer. Last Friday, Aug 28th 2015 was a hot summer night and people were cutting loose.
The catalyst for every good schmooze is free booze, and Deb and Shanny are sponsored and seem to have an inexhaustible supply. First it was Belvedere vodka, then Disaronto amaretto, and then Casamigos tequila..
And on Friday Aug 28th 2015 the sponsor was Apothic White wine which women love but in my experience this is an alcohol to which men are generally indifferent . So it was good opportunity for men to look like superheros, donating their one free drink to their ladies, or any lady. I didn’t pay for a single drink all night.
Apothic White wine is from United States, California region. Apothic White is a blended wine that combines Chardonnay, Riesling and Moscato grapes. If you talked to any of the Apothic Girls with the wings, they were instructed to point out the “…flavors of peach, pineapple, honey and vanilla spice”, which may or may not have been in there. I didn’t detect anything like that. Anyway thanks to this corporate wine I had a great Friday night so.. party on.
This is Gary Wilson. He’s a successful local businessman and the proprietor of Eligible Magazine, and resident style captain who graces each party with his presence and confident wardrobe. He’s a clothes horse.. or, a clothes stallion. Saying hello to Gary was somehow part of the evening ritual for dozens of other event attendees who cued up around the man looking for any chance to converse with him about anything.. They wanted him for a moment in time, they wanted to be included in his reality, and stand there beside him.
Here’s a lovely Maisonette angel booze rep… the wine tastes like peaches and pineapples.
Here’s Laura and some guy in a flashy purple shirt that matched her lipstick. If I remember correctly I think that’s what inspired this photo. At least two other men offered to buy that shirt on the spot.
That’s Shanny on the right. She does matchmaking and is #1 on Google for ‘Toronto matchmaker’ search term, Rob assures me.
But Shanny is many things to many people. She’s a professional wing-woman as is evidenced here, and personal shopper and premier taste-maker. 
She’s a gentle soul who takes pleasure in seeing other people happy, and when she hooks up her friends, she starts dynasties. Shanny has a regular column now on View the Vibe, Sex and the 6ix.
I have no idea what’s on tap but I know there is one more extravaganza planned – tomorrow night. Sept 4th 2015.
Over the course of the summer, the Schmooze became the staple ‘singles’ event for many of these mid 30s to 50 year old people, because it carried the air of FOMO on Facebook, and in truth it really is a great networking opportunity that’s outside in the sunshine with free food and booze.. What can go wrong? As the sun sets and people get wobbly it becomes a thriving pick-up place. It’s anything you want it to be, and you’re guaranteed at least a free drink and a slider from the booze rep beauties.
Factoid – hot girls on staff at Maison Mercer are known as “Maisonettes”. Now you know.
